Love After Prostitution
As I sat at my desk a few days ago meditating on God, a thought came to me. I was not deep or hidden knowledge however the magnitude of it had alluded me completely. I scanned my memory to recall scriptures I had read, sermons heard and stories told, and I realized the undeniable truth that …..the entire Bible is a love story! It tells of a God who loves us so much that he forgives us over and over again.
He brought to my remembrance the story in the book of Hosea, where his wife Gomer prostituted herself with various lovers, and yet her husband still took her back.
Hosea Chapter 33 The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.”2 So I bought her for fifteen shekels[a] of silver and about a homer and a lethek[b] of barley. 3 Then I told her, “You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will behave the same way toward you.”4 For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or household gods. 5 Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.I don’t know that there are many/any of us that will love someone who consciously makes the decision to reject us over and over again, however, not only does God promise to be faithful to us if we are faithful to him, but returning to him always leads to a blessing. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believed in him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
